The government has informed the Lok Sabha that till now it has not taken any decision to prepare National Register of Citizens (NRC) at the national level. It has also said that during the exercise of updation of NPR, no verification is done to find individuals whose citizenship is doubtful.
SC has given Tamil Nadu state legislative speaker a week’s time to inform when he will take the cognisance of the disqualification petitions filed under 10th schedule against Deputy Chief Minister and 10 other AIADMK MLAs for voting against the confidence motion moved by Chief Minister Edappadi Palaniswami in Feb 2017.  The court has also questioned the speaker’s inaction, repeatedly asking why he kept the disqualification petitions pending for three whole years without even issuing notice.


SC in 2007, in Rajender Singh Rana case had laid down that failure of the speaker to exercise his jurisdiction will attract judicial review.
The article highlights that India’s negligible presence and interventions in the International Maritime Organisation (IMO) is affecting its interest. It gives an example that India’s permanent representative post in IMO at London has remained vacant for the last 25 years. It says that India should now make its presence felt in IMO so that its national interest are served. It is time India regained its status as a major maritime power
