Guru Ravidas Jayanti was celebrated on 9 February


Guru Ravidas Jayanti is celebrated on 9 February 2020. The day is celebrated on the full moon day in the month of Magh (Magh Purnima). In India, this day is a holiday in the regions of Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, and Punjab. To mark his birth anniversary, processions carrying his portrait took place in the streets of Seer Govardhanpur. 

Guru Ravidas:
Guru Ravidas was an Indian mystic poet-sant. He was born at the end of the 14th century in Seer Govardhanpur village, Uttar Pradesh. He was an eminent figure in the Bhakti Movement. His 41 devotional songs and poems are included in Guru Granth Sahib, the Sikh Scriptures. His teachings form the basis of the Ravidassia religion. He taught spirituality. He was one of the first people who tried to bring forward a message of equality based on freedom from the oppression of the Indian caste system.
