Indian coast guard concludes 2-day SAREX-22

Important Points: 

  • The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) on Sunday conducted the 10th National Maritime Search and Rescue Exercise SAREX -22 in Chennai.
  • ICG Dornier planes demonstrated ways of rescuing passengers from ships and aircraft during emergencies.
  • This is a biennial exercise.
  • The 10th edition of the National Maritime Search and Rescue Exercise (SAREX -22), was inaugurated today by Dr Ajay Kumar, Defence Secretary, Government of India.
  • The theme of this edition of the biennial exercise is “Capacity Building Towards Marine Passenger Safety” and signifies the resolve and commitment of the NMSARB and other stakeholder agencies in providing succour during large-scale contingencies within our ISSR and beyond.

  • The objective of this exercise is to avoid accidents at sea and save lives by conducting rescue operations. During this, 24 observers from 16 countries participated in the exercise organized under the theme ‘Capacity Building Towards Maritime Security’.
  • This was the 10th exercise conducted by the Coast Guard. During this exercise, new technology like remote controlled lifebuoys were demonstrated over the Bay of Bengal.
