Institutional deliveries Under JSY Increased

Institutional deliveries under the Janani Suraksha Yojana (JSY) has increased.

Janani Suraksha Yojana:
♦ Janani Suraksha Yojana (JSY) is a safe motherhood intervention of the National Rural Health Mission (NHM).
♦ The purpose of this scheme is to reduce maternal and infant mortality by promoting institutional delivery of pregnant women.
♦ Janani Suraksha Yojana was established in April 2005 by revising the National Maternity Benefit Scheme (NMBS).
♦ JSY is a centrally sponsored scheme that combines cash assistance with delivery and post-delivery care.
♦ The scheme focuses on poor pregnant women, and provides special subsidies for states with low institutional delivery rates.
♦ The scheme also provides performance-based incentives to women health volunteers called ASHA (Accredited Social Health Activist) to promote institutional delivery of pregnant women.
