BULLETS OF THE DAY FOR CRACKING IAS 2O20 THE HINDU(#DAY 105)

BULLETS OF THE DAY FOR CRACKING IAS 2O20 THE HINDU(#DAY 105)

1) AAP sweeps Delhi with 62 seats

This article is all about the Delhi poll result and the clean sweep of Sam aadmi party with 62 seats.
AAP gets 53.6%, marginally below its 54.2% share in 2015BJP wins 8 seats, 5 more than 2015, with 38.5 % vote shareCongress candidates likely to lose deposits in 63 seats.
Despite a hard-fought and bitter campaign that saw big guns, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah address rallies, the BJP managed to win only eight seats, up five from its 2015 tally.
Speaking after the victory, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said, “The people of Delhi have given birth to a new kind of politics — the politics of work. This is a vote for those who build schools, who provide electricity and healthcare. This augurs well for the country.”

2) Trump confirms India visit on February 24, 25

This article is in context of u.s president trump's visit to India.
U.S. President Donald Trump will visit India on February 24 and 25, as per an official announcement from the White House.
Confirming the visit, the Ministry of External Affairs in statement said, “During the visit, President Trump and the First Lady will attend official engagements in New Delhi and Ahmedabad, Gujarat, and interact with a wide cross section of Indian society.”

3) Benefits of post-lunch nap at work rated highly by study

A paper published recently by the non-profit National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER), based in Cambridge, Massachusetts, U.S., argues that higher quality sleep during a power nap improves economic and psychological outcomes over an increase in the number of hours of sleep.
As part of the study, the subjects were recruited for a full-time data-entry job for one month. The researchers then cross-randomised the sample into two types of interventions to increase sleep: night sleep treatments, and a nap treatment that gave them, daily, an opportunity to take a half-hour nap in the afternoon in a quiet space in the office.
Increased night sleep did not have any measurable positive impacts on a range of outcomes. Naps, on the other hand, increased work productivity by 2.3%, boosted a measure of attention, and improved psychological well-being. It also emerged that naps increased patience, and actually resulted in 14% higher deposits in a savings account, says the paper.

4) SC’s order on quota in promotions challenged

This article is in the context of jarnail Singh case verdict of reservation in promotion.
Bhim Army chief Chandra Shekhar Aazad moved the Supreme Court for a review of its February 7 judgment reiterating the settled law that an individual cannot claim reservation in promotion as a fundamental right.
However, Mr. Aazad has argued in his review petition that the Februay judgment would “act as a tool in the hands of the oppressors to further oppress and exploit the SC, ST, OBC and the economically weaker sections, causing further marginalisation within society, thereby defeating the endeavour to bring equality between the citizens of this country by the framers of our Constitution particularly those of Babasaheb Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar.”

5) First call

This article is all about srilankan president visit to Delhi.
Contrary to their last stint which ended in 2015, when Mahinda Rajapaksa was President, and his younger brother Gotabaya was Defence Secretary, and ties underwent a strain for several reasons, New Delhi too has indicated that it would like to make a fresh start, working on development projects, including a joint India-Japan proposal for the East Container Terminal at Colombo.
Mahinda Rajapaksa has also discussed extending the $400-million Line of Credit and India’s further assistance for nationwide housing. Air connectivity to Sri Lanka’s north and east is already being improved — there is a flight from India to Jaffna, and another one being proposed for Batticaloa.
India, Sri Lanka and the Maldives are expected to revive their trilateral on security, including joint maritime security talks and anti-terror cooperation. Finally, Mr. Rajapaksa reaffirmed his belief that among Sri Lanka’s friendships, India is seen as a “relative”, given their history and culture.
Prime Minister Modi said India hopes that the “expectations of the Tamil people for equality, justice, peace, and respect” would be realised and that devolution of powers according to the 13th amendment would be taken forward.
Mr. Rajapaksa has ruled out taking forward the MoU signed by his predecessor Ranil Wickremesinghe allowing Indian participation in energy and infrastructure projects in Trincomalee; an Indian stake in “Mattala airport” is not on the cards either.
