☯Important facts of Census 2011

⚫The first Census in India took place in 1872.

#● But first regular census was initiated in 1881 by
☛ Lord Rippon.

🔴The Census of India Act, 1948--

☛ gives Central Government powers to notify a date for Census; power to ask for the services of any citizen for census work.

●The law also makes it compulsory for every citizen of country to answer the questions as part of census, truthfully and honestly.

●The Act has provisions for penalties to punish false answers or not giving answers to the census questionnaire.

●One important provision of this act is the guarantee for the maintenance of secrecy of the information collected during the census.

●It is to be noted that the census records are not to be inspected and also they are not admissible as evidence.

✔Census 2011 data was released on 31st March 2011 by Union Home Secretary and RGCCI (Registrar General and Census Commissioner of India) of India.

✔Census 2011 was the 15th census of India & 7th census after Independence.

✔The motto of census 2011 was ☛“Our Census, Our future”.

✔The cost of the Census was estimated to be 22 Billion Rupees

🔴Total Population – 1,210,569,573 (1.21 Billion)

☆●Top 2 Districts:-- ✔Thane(Maharashtra) and
✔North Twenty Four Parganas (West Bengal)

☆●Bottom 2 Districts:--
✔ Dibang Valley (Arunachal Pradesh) and ✔Anjaw (Arunachal Pradesh).

🔴GROWTH RATE---India in 2nd rank in the population with 😣➡17.64%. decadal growth.(21.5 in previous decade)

💠⚫Highest avg & decadal growth rate-- Meghalaya

☆Lowest--Nagaland

✔During 2001-2011, as many as 25 States/UTs with a share of about 85% of the country’s population registered an annual growth rate of Less than 2%

✔Nagaland is only the state that has negative growth rate.

✔2001-2011 is the first decade (with the exception of 1911-1921) which has actually added lesser population compared to the previous decade

✔Districts with highest and lowest decadal growth rate were ☆Kurung Kumey and ☆ Longleng respectively.

✔👪Increase in population during 2001 – 2011 is☛ 181 Million😓

✔There was an increase of 90.97 million males and increase of 90.99 million females.

✡✔The growth rate of females was 18.3 per cent which is higher than males — 17.1 percent.

✔Uttar Pradesh with a population of 199.5 million is the most populous State in India, followed by Maharashtra with 112 million people.

🔴DENSITY:----382

● increased from 325 in 2001 to 382 in 2011 in per sq km.

●☆Bihar occupies the first position with a density of 1106, surpassing West Bengal which occupied the first position during 2001.

☆●Delhi (11,320) turns out to be the most densely inhabited followed by Chandigarh (9,258), among all states and UT’s, both in 2001 and 2011 Census.

●□The minimum population density works out in Arunachal Pradesh (17) for both 2001 and 2011 Census.

☆●Top 2 Districts: --🔼North East (NCT of Delhi) and 🔼Chennai

🔻Bottom 2 district: Dibang Valley and Samba.

⚀The CHILD SEX RATIO:---914

✔The total number of children recorded in the age-group of  0-6 is 158.8 million (a decrease of 5 million since census 2001).

✔Therefore, 20 States and Union Territories now have over one million children in the age group of 0-6 years.

✔On the other end, there are 5 States and Union Territories which are yet to reach the one million mark.

✔It should be noted that
☛Uttar Pradesh has 29.7 million children,
☛Bihar has 18.6 million,
☛Maharashtra has 12.8 million,
☛Madhya Pradesh has 10.5 million & ☛Rajasthan has 10.5 million children in 0-6 years of age.

♯♯ These states constitute 52% children in the age group of 0-6 years in the country.

✔Population of children beloging to 0-6 years age in the decade of 2001-2011 has registered a decline of 3.08 % growth.

✔😟The child sex ratio for 0-6 years age is ✡➡914.(Lowest since independence)

✔There is an increasing trend in the child sex ratio (0-6years) in states of Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, Mizoram and A&N Islands.

✔In all other remaining 27 States and UTs, the child sex ratio has showed a decline in comparison to the Census 2001.

✔It should be noted that, ☛Mizoram has the highest child sex ratio in 0-6 years of age with 971 female children per 1000 males.

☛It is closely  followed by ♭Meghalaya with 970 female child.

☛On the contaray, Haryana is at the bottom of the list with a depressing ratio of 830 females per 1000 males, followed closely by Punjab with 846 females.

🔴SEX RATIO--940 (933,in 2001)
Highest--Kerala(1084). Lowest-Haryana(879)

●Kerala recorded a sex ratio of 1084, that is the highest sex ratio in country. It is closely followed by 🔺Puducherry with 1038. Opposed to these, 🔻Daman & Diu has recorded the lowest sex ratio of ✔❗618 in the census 2011.

🔺Top 2 Districts: Mahe and Almora

🔻Bottom 2 Districts: Daman and Leh

🔴Literacy Rate:---74%(M-84, F-65)

●Literacy rate of the country has gone up from 64.83% in census 2001 to a 9.21 point increse to reach
☆☛74.04% in census 2011 showing progress.

●Highest--Kerala(93.9%)

●Lowest--Bihar(63.8%)

●Female illiteracy--Rajasthan(52.7)

●Gender wise percentage growth in literacy during 2001-2011 decade is ☛38.82%.

●☆For males it increased by 31.98% and for females the literacy rates increased by 49.10%.

●☆Literate population now constitutes➡ 74 % of the total population in age group 7 and above, while illiterates constitute 26 per cent of the population in the census 2011 data.

●☆Highest literacy rate according to Religion – ✔Jain (94 %) > Christian (80%) > Buddhist (74%)

●Area – Rural (68.9 %) Urban ( 85%)

♡Literacy rate has gone up from 64.83 percent in 2001 to 74.04 percent in 2011 showing an increase of 9.21 percentage points.

🔘Ten States and Union Territories viz., Kerala, Lakshadweep, Mizoram, Tripura, Goa, Daman & Diu, Puducherry, Chandigarh, NCT of Delhi and Andaman & Nicobar Islands have achieved the literacy rate of above 85 Percent

💠The gap of 21.59 percentage points recorded between male and female literacy rates in 2001 Census has reduced to 16.68 percentage points in 2011.

☛Top 2 Districts: Serchhip and Aizwal

☛Bottom 2 Districts Alirajpur and Bijapur

⚀ Rural and urban population -–

●Altogether, ☛833.5 million persons live in rural area as per Census 2011, which was more than two-third of the total population, while 377.1 million persons live in urban areas.

● Urban proportion has gone up from 17.3 per cent in 1951 to 31.2 per cent in 2011.

●Highest proportion of urban population is in ☛NCT Delhi (97.5 per cent).

☛Top five states in share of urban population are
✔Goa (62.2 per cent),
✔Mizoram (52.1 per cent),
✔ Tamil Nadu (48.4 per cent), ✔Kerala (47.7 per cent) and ✔Maharashtra (45.2 per cent).

The religious data on India Census 2011 was released by the Government of India on 25 August 2015.

●☆Hindus are ✔79.8% (966.3 million), while Muslims are ✔14.23% (172.2 million) in India.

♡✡ For the first time, a
●“No religion” category was added in the 2011 census. ☆■2.87 million Were classified as people belonging to “No Religion” in India in the 2011 census.

●There are six religions in India that have been awarded “National Minority” status – Muslims, Christians, Sikhs, Jains, Buddhists and Parsis.

🔴Median Marriage age –--

☆ The median age increased for men – from 22.6 (2001) to 23.5 (2011) and for women – from 18.2 (2001) to 19.2 (2011)
