The 13 Presidents of India: The powerhouses who made the nation

 From Dr Rajendra Prasad, who was the first President of Independent India to Pranab Mukherjee, the current President, each one worked/ continues to work to ensure betterment of the country.

The President of India is the Head of the State and Supreme Commander of the armed forces. He is elected by the member of an Electoral College, which comprises of all elected members of both the Houses of Parliament and the Legislative Assemblies of the State and Union Territories of India.

The president holds Office for a term of five years.

Listed below are the various Presidents of India and the tenure for which they were in office:

Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan

Term of Office: May 13, 1962 to May 13, 1967


Dr. Zakir Husain

Term of Office: May 13, 1967 to May 3, 1969


Shri Varahagiri Venkata Giri

Term of Office: May 13, 1969 to July 20, 1969 and August 24, 1969 to August 24, 1974

Dr. Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed

Term of Office: August 24, 1974 to February 11, 1977

Shri Neelam Sanjiva Reddy

Term of Office: July 25, 1977 to July 25, 1982
