World Post Day

World Post day happens each year on October 9, the anniversary of the Universal Postal Union, which started in 1874 in Switzerland.
    The UPU was the start of the global communications revolution, introducing the ability to write to others all over the world. World Post Day started in 1969.

• World Post Day is an annual event designed to highlight the importance of postal services around the world and to raise awareness of them and their contributions to society and the global economy.
• The event occurs on October 9 on an annual basis.
• The event was first declared at the 1969 United Postal Congress in Tokyo, Japan and is celebrated annually on October 9, marking the anniversary of the establishment of the Universal Postal Union on that date in Switzerland in 1874.
• The creation of the Universal Postal Union, now a body of the United Nations, helped to make the delivery of postal letters and packages much more efficient, simple and coordinated, greatly improving communications throughout the entire world.
