Rajasthan govt to create separate identity card for the transgender community in the state

Rajasthan state government has announced that it is to connect the transgender community with the mainstream society. It is to provide separate identity cards for transgenders in the state. The announcement was made by the Social Justice and Empowerment Minister Master Bhanwarlal Meghwal.

Aim:
The move aims to support the transgender community to get the benefit of government jobs and all government schemes.

Reason:
The Human Rights groups have been asking for transgenders to be included in mainstream society for the longest time. The only transgender in the state got a government job in police under a woman's quota. There is more than one lakh transgender in the state. But based on the census, there are only 16,517 transgenders in the state.
