The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) chairman Arvind Saxena has recently recommended the central government and ministries to recruit people who fail in the interview round in Civil Services and other examinations.
If implemented, the new rule will help UPSC aspirants in getting government job even if they fail to clear the interview round.
"We have proposed to the central government and the ministries to recruit people from the list of candidates who make it to the interview stage in civil services and other exams, but fail to get picked up," UPSC chairperson said in a recent New India Express report.
This announcement was made on the occasion of the 23th National Conference of the Chairmen of State Public Service Commission being organised in Odisha.
Out of 11 lakh, only few candidates get job in UPSC:
In the conference, Arvind Saxena said nearly 11 lakh candidates apply for the Civil Services Examination each year but only half of them appear for the preliminary examination. Further, number candidates decreases through examination stages and in the end only 600 candidates remain.
In order to reduce the tension and suffering, the government should consider recruiting from the list of students passing through these difficult selection procedures to other ministries, Saxena added.
UPSC exam process more candidate-friendly
During the conference, the UPSC chairman also mentioned that the commission is planning to bring changes in the selection process and efforts are being made to make the recruitment procedure more candidate-friendly.
In 2018, about 8 lakh candidates had applied for the CSE prelims, out of which only about 10,500 candidates have qualified for the main exams, all competing for a mere 780 vacancies.
