Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana Minimum Deposit Per YearCentral government has reduced Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana Minimum Deposit Per Year to Rs. 250. Sukanya Samriddhi Account is a small savings scheme to ensure that people must “Save for Every Girl Child”. Previously, all the beneficiaries needs to deposit minimum amount of Rs. 1000 yearly. SSY Scheme will encourage the parents to take advantage of girl child saving scheme, save money and spend on their education.

The government has make an amendment in Sukanya Samriddhi Account Rules, 2016 to state that minimum initial deposit amount to open the account would now be Rs 250. SSY Account Minimum Balance that is to be maintained is now lowered from Rs. 1000 to Rs. 250 annually. Sukanya Samriddhi Account Scheme was launched in January 2015. SSY Interest Rate is 8.1% per annum (July-September) calculated on yearly basis and then compounded yearly.

Till November 2017, govt. has opened more than 1.26 crore SSY accounts in the name of girl children. These opened Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana Accounts secures an amount of Rs 19,183 crore. SSY Interest Rate is revised on a quarterly basis like other Post Office Savings Schemes. From July to September quarter, the interest rate is fixed at 8.1 per cent. People can now open Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana Account with Minimum Balance of Rs. 250. The maintaining balance and the minimum deposit per year is also reduced from Rs. 1000 to Rs. 250 with maximum limit of Rs. 1,50,000 in a financial year. People can make subsequent deposits in multiples of Rs. 100. People can make deposits in lump-sum and also there is no limit on the number of times in which payment can be made.
Any Legal / Natural Guardian can open SSY account in the name of a girl child by producing only the Birth Certificate. There must be only one account for a single girl child upto maximum 2 different accounts for 2 daughters in a single family. For more details, visit the official website:-

This account attains maturity when the girl child completes 21 years of age after which the money will be given to the bank account of the girl in whose name the account was opened. All the deposits also attracts Tax Benefits and are fully exempted under section 80C of the Income Tax (IT) Act.
