About Chandigarh IAF Heritage Centre

Chandigarh IAF (Indian Air Force) Heritage Centre will be set up in a bid to showcase the role of Indian Air Force in several wars and overall functioning. It will be set up jointly by the force and Chandigarh administration. For this purpose, an MoU was signed between the Union Territory of Chandigarh and the IAF. It will be India’s first such centre. It is being set up at erstwhile printing press in Sector 18 of Chandigarh.

Purpose of the Heritage Centre

The Chandigarh Heritage Centre will comprise of artefact, simulators and interactive boards, in order to highlight various facets of IAF. It will showcase the important role played by service in assistance rendered for humanitarian assistance and disaster relief, besides the war. It will also house the vintage aircraft.

When will it be completed?

The centre has planned to complete the project by October 2022.

Who is the maintaining authority?

This heritage centre will be maintained by the UT administration. On the other hand, Indian Airforce will set up weapons and other equipment.

When government decided to set up the centre?

The Chandigarh administration had decided to set up the Heritage centre in 2019, when they had shut down the Government Printing Press. This was tipped as a dream project of former administrator VP Singh Badnore. Later, the administration decided to set up a heritage furniture item museum alongside the vintage car museum. The administration and the Indian Air Force agreed to build a vintage aircraft museum on August 27, 2021.
