International Day of Zero Tolerance For Female Genital Mutilation is was on 6 February

In order to fight female genital mutilation, the International Day Of Zero Tolerance For Female Genital Mutilation is celebrated on February 6 every year.

Highlights:
♦ The United Nations officially commemorated the International Day of Zero Tolerance of Female Genital Mutilation on February 6, 2003.
♦ Female genital mutilation (FGM) is an internationally recognized violation of the human rights of girls and women.
♦ This practice involves partial or total removal of external female genitalia or other injuries to female genital organs due to non-medical reasons.
♦ The World Health Organization divides female genital mutilation into four major categories.
♦ Type 1: Partial or total removal of the clitoris glans (the outer and visible part of the clitoris, which is the sensitive part of the female genitalia) and/or the foreskin is too long/clitoris hood (the skin folds around the clitoris glans).
♦ Type 2: The clitoris glans and labia minora (the internal folds of the vulva) are partially or completely removed, or the labia majora (the external folds of the vulva skin) are removed or not.
♦ Type 3: Also known as atrial fibrillation, this refers to the formation of a covering seal by cutting and repositioning the labia minora or labia majora, sometimes by stitching, and removing or not removing the clitoris foreskin/oesophagal mask to reduce the vaginal opening and glans (I Type FGM).
♦ Type 4: This includes all other harmful procedures on the female genitalia for non-medical purposes, such as stabbing, stabbing, cutting, scraping and burning the genital area.
