13 Digit Mobile Numbers To Be Implemented In India; Details Here

The Department of Telecom has issued 13-digit mobile numbers to the telecom operators of India. But there is no need to get alarmed because your mobile number will remain unaffected as it will not change to 13 digit number. The letter that has been written by DoT to telecom companies mentions that the 13-digit numbers are only for M2M SIM cards.
These M2M or machine2machine SIM cards are used in automated machines and they are majorly used in machines that run on network connectivity. These machines could range between small gadgets to big machinery but the important thing required is Internet or mobile network connectivity for the basic functioning of the machines. These are widely used for applications for example in smart homes, fleet management, traffic control, supply chain, wearable and many other things.
The rumours began because of the letter sent from DoT to ZTE and Nokia. In the letter, it has been mentioned that it has been decided that 13-digit M2M (Machine-to-machine) numbering plan will be executed from July 1, 2018. From July 1, all new M2M mobile connections will be assigned 13-digit numbers only.
